The ´óÏóÊÓƵInformation and Communication Technology Research Group (ICTRG), based on the Fredericton campus, specializes in applied research and development in areas like 5G mobile systems, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mixed reality, as well as social impacts of technology, assistive technologies, and sustainability. Directed by Dr. William McIver, Jr., and supported by a team of five full-time researchers, ICTRG complements later-stage innovation programs by providing scientific and technical expertise to businesses and community partners. Since 2013, the group has made key contributions across various sectors, including software engineering and human-centred design, tackling a wide range of challenges from city parking solutions to agricultural technology.

The Functional Genomics Research Lab provides guidance on industry-specific genomics applications. It focuses on Next Generation DNA Sequencing (NGS) of smaller batch runs, using advanced platforms such as the Illumina iSeq 100 and MinION. The lab specializes in precise and efficient library preparation, providing tailored sequencing solutions for local agriculture, aquaculture, soil, EDNA, and health industries. By offering high-quality sequencing and preparation services, the lab supports a variety of functional genomics studies, while also meeting the training needs of university and public health authority labs. 

At the Intelligent Community Institute Canada (Atlantic), hosted by New Brunswick Community College (NBCC), we are dedicated to shaping the future of urban living by addressing the challenges that come with rapid urbanization. With millions of people moving to cities every week, urban areas are facing growing demands on infrastructure, mobility, safety, and governance. We believe that the cities of tomorrow must be connected, sustainable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of their citizens. Through the use of smart technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), mixed reality, and artificial intelligence (AI), our goal is to provide data-driven insights and innovative solutions that drive economic development, improve the quality of life for all, and maintain the legacy values of urban communities. Located in Fredericton, ´óÏóÊÓƵis proud to host the Institute in partnership with the Intelligent Community Forum, contributing to the growth of the province's thriving communities and supporting its future-ready initiatives, with a specific focus on ACCESS: Accessible Cities and Communities Enabled by Smart Solutions.

NBCC’s research office supports all applied research conducted across the college, facilitating projects in a wide range of fields. This includes research driven by both faculty and students in various skill areas such as trades, engineering technologies, business, arts, information technology, community services, early childhood education, hospitality, and health. The office plays a crucial role in fostering innovation and practical solutions, empowering researchers to contribute meaningfully to their respective sectors and advance knowledge in ways that directly impact communities and industries.
